Port Botany Terminal 3

Hutchison Port Holdings, the largest freight operator in the world, built a new container terminal at Port Botany, called Terminal 3. The size of the project directly reflects the growing infrastructure requirements of New South Wales.

Project Design Brief

The 46 hectare site comprises 100,000m 2 of concrete paving and 200,000m 2 of reinforced concrete slab.
The drainage elements selected were an integral consideration for the long term function of the terminal.

ACO's Solution

  • PowerDrain S300K with Iron Slotted grates was chosen for this expansive project as the channels have a built-in fall of 5mm for each metre of channel, ensuring efficient drainage of the flat pavements.

Benefits

  • Iron Slotted grates rated to load Class G 900kN (AS 3996) were specified to withstand the rigorous wheel loads from port vehicles.
  • Anti-shunt lugs ensure the grates remain firmly in place and will not dislodge by excessive wheel movements and heavy braking.

Other ACO products used:

  • Grated trench drain and ductile iron access covers
